Commercial IP CCTV Systems don't spend, integrate

An IP CCTV System is built around a Windows based software package. At T2 Security we are accredited to supply the World's leading network video software, Milestone XProtect. It's a client/server based package which means that the brains of the software is installed on a Windows PC.

Although we can supply a range of server machines, the software can be installed onto one of your existing PC's, saving you space and money. Our buyer's guide further down the page gives you the system and storage requirements, but the server software runs on most PC's and isn't data intensive.

The client part of the software can then be installed onto the same PC, or any other machine. So, if we install the software onto a PC on your network, you can access all the recordings from your desk, your laptop or even a mobile device.

Server what are the requirements?

This part of the guide is designed to you an idea of the requirements of the PC that the central part of the CCTV system will reside on. If after reading this section you decide that you don't need us to supply a PC, you will save yourself around £650 for a typical installation.

Storage is a key consideration, we usually allow for 500GB of storage space for each camera. That allows for 30 days recording of a HDTV resolution camera at a very high 30 frames per second. This will give you beautifully crisp and smooth security footage, but the settings of each camera can be tweaked if you wish to save on storage space.

The next consideration is processing power. The Milestone XProtect software will happily run along in the background on your file server or even just a desktop PC. It's not particularly demanding, however if your system is going to comprise of more than 3-4 cameras we recommend that you consider a dedicated machine.

Here are the basic hardware and software requirements to run Milestone XProtect Essential, the version we find most popular;

• CPU: Intel® Pentium® 4, 2.4 GHz or higher (Core2™ recommended).
• RAM: Minimum 2 GB (4 GB or more recommended).
• Minimum 10 GB free hard disk space available, excluding space needed for recordings.
• Ethernet: 1 Gigabit recommended
• HDD: E-IDE, PATA, SATA, SCSI, SAS (7200 RPM or faster).
• Onboard GFX, AGP or PCI-Express, minimum 1024 x 768, 16 bit colors.

• Operating system: (32 bit or 64 bit)
Windows XP Professional
Windows Server 2003
Windows Server 2008 R1/R2
Windows Vista™ Business
Windows Vista Enterprise
Windows Vista Ultimate
Windows 7 Professional
Windows 7 Enterprise
Windows 7 Ultimate

Software which version do I need?

Despite the fact that the XProtect software is perhaps the most important part of the system, it often costs less than a single camera. There is even a free version, XProtect Go which supports up to 8 cameras. XProtect Go is limited to only 7 day recording and 1 user can be logged in at any one time.

If XProtect Go doesn't fit your requrements, XProtect Essential starts at £64 for the base license which includes licenses for two cameras. Each additional camera is then priced at £32. Essential supports up to 26 cameras and suits most of our clients.

Installation what is it likely to cost?

Our installation fees are dependent very much on the individual circumstances of the system requirements and the property in question. We ask that you give us a call to talk over your needs so we can give you an indicative quotation for the installation over the phone. Alternatively fill in the details in the bar on the left and we will call you.
